Ok, seems like an intersting idea. I guess we'll have to wait and see how it turns out though... Oh, the merriment that takes place when the bass players from various English groups hang out together. Apparently Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order), Andy Rourke (The Smiths), and Mani (Stone Roses) were enjoying a few bevvies when Hook ventured the idea of the three of them forming an all bass supergroup, which elicited laughter from all present, indicating to him that it was a good idea. From CMJ quoting Filter Magazine, "'It was just one drunken night and I floated the idea. And basically what gave me the most impetus was that everyone laughed,' Hook told Filter. 'Three bass players on an album—everyone absolutely pissed themselves.'" The band is made up of the three bassists plus a vocalist to be named later (they're looking for someone unknown who does not play the bass for some reason). Note: I realize this isn't totally new news, but as a b
This is a very good sign and couldn't happen to a better band... Indie Band Replaces Beyonce at Top of Billboard Dance Chart Friday September 15, 10:15 am ET PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The sound of sputtered latte was heard from many a music industry office on Thursday when Billboard Magazine published its latest weekly charts. Expected to stay at number one atop the Billboard Dance Single Sales chart was "Deja Vu," the latest hit song from Beyonce and Jay-Z. Instead, it was bumped down to #2, with the top spot going to "Sophia," an industrial-electronic dance track by Florida band The Cruxshadows. Released on Dancing Ferret Discs, an independent Philadelphia record label, the single also debuted at #7 on Billboard's overall Single Sales chart. ADVERTISEMENT "Even we are a bit surprised," confessed Dancing Ferret's Patrick Rodgers. "Demand for the band is constantly increasing, but in terms of supply, we haven't had a new
I'm not sure why they even try to do stories like these anymore. Ok, it might be another 6-7 years until Ministry comes out with another album, but chances are they'll be back... After more than a quarter-century of service, it's understandable to Ministry bassist Paul Raven as to why leader Al Jourgensen has decided to put his band out to pasture. "I think that what he's done with the band over the years is quite an accomplishment. As far as the music's concerned, I think it speaks for itself," he said. "And what's next? We all roll ourselves out on stage on electric wheelchairs?" Playing what is expected to be their final shows in Jourgensen's former hometown Saturday and Sunday at Chicago's House of Blues, Ministry are, arguably the American pioneers of industrial music. While their debut, 1983's "With Sympathy," was a hit with '80s New Wavers, Ministry led the aggro-industrial wave on this side of the pond begin
I'm always happy to see when new Banco de Gaia comes out, even if the last CD didn't do much for me, I always have faith that he'll return to his former glory musically... Farewell Ferengistan" sees Banco De Gaia returning to the world of electronic beats on June 12th. Toby Marks, under the pseudonym Banco de Gaia, has spent most of his career focusing on issues that he finds bewildering by expressing his thoughts and observations through music. While he wrote his critically acclaimed 1995 album "Last Train To Lhasa" to highlight the plight of the Tibetan people this time Banco de Gaia's concerns are much closer to home: "What are we doing to ourselves? Where is our materialism taking us, would it not be wise to consider our position?" To celebrate the release of the new album the band are doing a couple of launch shows in London on the 9th and 10th of June. On June 9th for example they are presenting a very special exclusive 5.1 surround mix of
I just got done listening to the interview with Collide on smallworldpodcast . It is always so good to hear artists who are doing what they want and not playing the corporate game, I have a ton of respect for Collide and their starting up their own record label noiseplusmusic .

Well, this looks promising... An album inspired by the work of prolific author Neil Gaiman will be released this summer by Philadelphia-based independent label Dancing Ferret Discs. The project, tentatively titled "Where's Neil When You Need Him?," is expected to arrive July 18, according to Dancing Ferret principal Patrick Rodgers. Rodgers, who is came up with the album's concept and is acting as music supervisor, asked artists he knew were fans of the writer to compose material based on their favorite Gaiman character or story. Some fashioned songs after his more popular work, such as the comic book series "The Sandman," while others took their inspiration from such rare pieces as his short story "The Goldfish Pool." The most high-profile contributor to the compilation is Tori Amos, a longtime friend of Gaiman's who occasionally name-checks the writer in her lyrics. In fact, the album's working title is a line taken from her song "Sp
As much as I always liked "Speak & Spell" I'm happy to see that it is being remastered, the other two albums as well. ------------------------------------------------------------ From www.netmusiccountdown.com: Audiophiles will be happy to know that the albums of Depeche Mode will be fully remastered and reissued over the next year. From the "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" files... It seems that going for the cheapest illegal way is not always the smartest thing to do. Over the past few weeks Side-Line has been inundated by e-mails from readers from all over the world including the USA, UK, Belgium, France, Holland etc telling they have been the victim of fraudulous use of their credit cards after having entered their credit card to buy illegal download albums for just one dollar, the so-called 'MP3-1dollardeals', from illegal MP3 websites. These sites, mostly based in Russia, are acting online as being from the UK, USA, Germany etc under over 40 domainnames (including the popular MP3sugar, Audio Store, ...). They have now started picking victims amongst their clients (believed to be several millions) at random to use their cards for other means. Several of these download sites are also using so-called official credit card verification companies which are in fact bogus companies
This is good news. I like Gary Numan and think he actually keeps putting out good music, I'm not sure anyone else is paying attention, but I'm glad he's doing it none the less... Out via Cooking Vinyl in Europe, Metropolis in America is Gary Numan's "Jagged" album. The brand new album from electronic pop pioneer Gary Numan is his first studio album in over five years. Co-produced with underground electronic artist DJ Ade Fenton "Jagged" is said to be an aggressive, forward-looking album which takes the best elements of his previous work and gives them an anthemic, contemporary twist. Tracklisting: 01. Pressure, 02. Fold, 03. Halo, 04. Slave, 05. In A Dark Place, 06. Haunted, 07. Blind, 08. Before You Hate It, 09. Melt, 10. Scanner, 11. Jagged. Well, good news on my own music front. Invisible Asps' song "Scarlet Design" was selected to be included on BLC Production's Interbreeding VIII compilation and is scheduled to be released in late March or April of 2006.
Well, hey, hopefully 2006 will shape up to be an outstanding year for dark music. I'm especially looking forward to the releases by Covenant, Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy, and of course Sisters of Mercy. I'm sure I'll be disappointed by some of it, but there's always hope that one classic will make up for the rest of it that isn't... From side-line.com : Side-Line gathered a new list of upcoming releases for the next few months, and they look rather juicy! Mind though that this is just a short list and that releasedates can be subject to change. January knocks off with brand new releases from De/Vision ("Subtkana" CD), Covenant ("Ritual Noise" EP), APB ("Shine On" MCD), Pride & Fall ("Elements of Silence") and the return 2CD album by Leaether Strip ("After the devastation" 2CD). Next is February with Mesh ("Crash" MCD), Pzychobitch ("Strom aus Fantasie" MCD), Depeche Mode ("Suffer Well&qu

This is good news. I'll be interested in seeing what these guys come out with in 2006. I know Bon Harris had worked with Billy Corgan, of Smashing Pumpkins fame, on his solo album. And McCarthy had done the work with Fixmer/McCarthy somewhat recently. So between the two of them hopefully they will be back in good form... "Nitzer Ebb have announced that their relation with their former label has been put back to normal. Douglas McCarthy: "We are both back in close communication with everyone at Mute and Daniel. In fact the first person I went seeing after I had met with Bon in Chicago was Daniel Miller at Mute. We are working very closely now with the label for the release of the 'Body of work' compilation." Does this mean that the issues the band had with Mute are now solved? "Oh yeah, yes, definitely. I mean at this point it has not even been discussed what would happen if we would have a new album coming up [but...] I have already submitted artwork
